I have always enjoyed playing Role Playing Games (RPG). When The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion for the Xbox 360, I was excited to buy it and start playing. Actually, I was so excited that I pre-ordered the game.
The very first thing I noticed about Oblivion, besides the great graphics, was the vast world. The world that you adventure in is huge. There is so much to see and do in the Oblivion world. The Non-Player characters (NPC) in the game follow a routine and get up and go to work and interact with the world.
There is a story line to move you through the game, but you do not need to stick to the story line. The main story line offers 40 hours of game play, if you stick to the story line and don't do any side quests. There are a ton of side quests offered in the world. The side quests consist of dungeons, joining guilds, robbing peoples homes, and even contracting vampirism. If you become a vampire, and don't want to be there are quests that you can do to "cure" your vampirism.
The first thing you do in the game is create your character. You can choose from three core abilities, magic, combat or stealth. Then you move on to choose your primary attributes and 7 major skills. Every character has every skill available to them. It is up to you which skills you would like to master to further your character class.
Leveling up is a bit different than a "normal" RPG. Your given a set of points to add do your skills. You can increase your skills any number of ways to suite your character needs. If your character is designed around combat, you are still able to put points into stealth if you wanted.
You start out in a prison cell and need to find your way out. Once you are out of the prison cell, you are free to explore the world and find the closest city.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion for the Xbox 360 is an outstanding game. There is so much content in this game it takes quite a while to get through. I highly recommend this game for someone that likes RPG games. You don't need to play the earlier Elder Scrolls games to pick this game up and have a good time.
